The Best Fish and Chippery

Always thought that the chip van at the Fishermen's pier in Tobermory was the best ( les Routiers listed too), however this year visited Ballycastle and visited the famous mortons.
Have not seen haddock that size since I was a child.
A tip- no need to ask for a large portion of chips. Well not unless you want to feed the seagulls.

The chip shop on the Green in Sarlisbury Green is really good, queues leading out the door especially Friday evenings. Ten minutes walk from Universal, Premier Swanwick, Deacons, RK and the likes.
 
Though it's not a fishing port - and I reckon the chippie at Emsworth a lot better - I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Corries at Cowes, there's often a line of drooling yotties waiting.

When my Dad was recovering from a gall bladder op' and we went to Cowes under strict dietary orders, I resigned myself to the fact that we would be visiting Corries no matter what, as the Luftwaffe & Kamikaze's didn't get him there is little that can survive getting between dad & good cod & chips, that's what he fought for !

The Fish n Chippie between East Cowes Marina & the ferry across to West Cowes is pretty good too; but Emsworth retains top prize for quality & consistency, never had anything less than excellent from there since it was called ' Scots' in the 1980's.
 
Didn't sample the fish but the chips were really very good (but expensive! £2.40 a portion I seem to remember) at the Braye Chippy on Alderney. This was in October with the new owners.

Zavaronis have never been up to much, fish and chips wise. One thing we learnt very fast over many years of childhood holidays on Bute was "never buy fish and chips from any of the Zavaroni shops". The West End Café is OK, but can be awful greasy. I've tried the Squat Lobster once and had the worst fish I have ever been served; grey, tasteless and with thick, doughy and only partially cooked batter. Yeuch. I threw it away.

The best chip shop I know in that area is the one at Wemyss Bay. I have anchored temporarily there in the past, so I think it counts as accessible by boat.

Er-hem. All you specified was "....within walking distance of the boat." Harry Ramsden's in Guiseley is just over a mile from the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which is no distance at all if you're hungry for a fish supper.

It's now run by Wetherby Whaler. I haven't been there, but the fish suppers from their Wetherby shop are quite respectable.
 
I was impressed by Fecci's in Tenby, don't do fish and chips really, but it was a holiday treat, taken at lunchtime to avoid evening indigestion. The chippy in Newlyn, Jewells, by the bridge is excellent, get the John Dory, and a salad box from Auntie May's a few doors up.
