The best AND the worst marina shower facilities in the Solent?

I just spent 4 nights at Port Solent and must have been using a different block to everybody else who finds them comparable to Berthon! Yes they are clean, but the size of cubicle and quantity of hot water were only just enough for me.

Any bias at all in this view though Nick? ;)

I've always thought Port Solent pretty damn good; haven't been to Berthon for years and now sadly unlikely to be there this year.

I agree with the comment East Cowes facilities are great, but far too crowded at peak times.

Emsworth Marina isn't really a visitors' place ( or strictly the Solent ), but could do with improvement, clean though.

I didn't think much of the Duver, Bembridge, and Island Harbour facilities are like a time warp to all the wort things about the 1960's, nice marina when time and tide suit though.

I don't think you lot know your born. Sorry but I must say when I started cruising in the Solent 1987 there were some truly awful facilities. Bembridge sticks in the mind but it wasn't alone in being poor. The lightship at Haslar was a step change when I went there in 1995 it is still one of the best. Further a field the toilets in Barfleur looked like a health hazard in 1990.

You try telling kids of today that-- they will never believe you!!!

In 1978 the best showers I experienced were in Cherbourg . An apologie from the mayor about the price and fire hose quantity of water as hot as you could take.
Next best was renting a shower at a Hotel and discovering the benefit of being a resident in the days of Opening Hours

Shower on board

+1 - never saw the reason for hopping along the pontoon in the morning, braving an often chilly breeze to share space with fellow sailors at a time when I am not at my most chatty. Why not stagger straight into a nice warm shower and then out to a quick cuppa without showing my face to the world - lovely!

I'm with you on that.

It doesn't really bother me in the Solent, as I've known nothing else and consider it just part of how the Solent is. But I can certainly understand the feeling, as I would hate to find a marina being set up in, say, Salcombe or Fowey.

Even in the Solent, I rarely went into marinas in Kindred Spirit; shallow draught that can take the ground helps with that.
