The BBC Dunkirk

Re: Are you sure?

Hi Mike. Possessive=genetive/genitive - in other words you, me, Ken, Fowler, we're saying the same thing. I'm going to shut up about this now, for fear of having bored everyone to death with it! That's the trouble with pedantry... you express a little idea which bothers you inside your head, then when it gets out it grows like topsy. Back to reachers and reefing and Colregs charts and all the stuff we're supposed to be about!
Best wishes

Not having read the post that you were answering I assumed that you were saying that both "it's" and "its" were correct. I was a bit too quick on the draw.
I agree that it is now getting a bit too tedious. Back to Dunkirk, as a young child at the time, I never realised how perilous those times were. And later I quite enjoyed listening to the doodlebugs and running to the shelter when the engine cut out.

Re: Excellent

Shaddup or I will be forced to quote Dictionary Johnson - much may be made of a scotchman if he be caught young. Enjoy the rugby this arvo.

The difficult one

is when it relates to a sports team, as in:

Manchester United is in the Premiership
Manchester United are in the Premiership.

In my view, the first is correct.

And the second are wrong!
