The BB11, A norwegian classical mahognyboat

I have, rather unsurprisingly, Skipjack K8 in Tollesbury, Essex. The BB11 (well, mine!) made it to no 132 or something in the last Classic Boat poll of the best 200 boats/classes of all time.

There was another BB11 on the Blackwater recently, and I believe there was one for sale in the UK that looked very well rebuilt recently (although I thought the coffee grinders were a bit excessive for a 40 square foot headsail!). David Lynch has a good site detailing the rebuilding of a BB11 (http://www.bluedome.co.uk/BB11/).

I talked to Jack Chippendale, and he recalled that they imported 'about thirty' BB11s into the UK in the early sixties. I think it was the 1960 London Boat Show that they had a BB11 on their stand.

Beatiful boat, beautiful to sail.

Here's a bit of information on 'Janye' UK32 which I owned from 1976 - 1986. Bought on Coniston, & previously kept at Piel Island (Barrow in Furness), she was then in early old age & suffering a bit. Even had drying legs. I re-decked her, had her re-ribbed (at Crossfields yard, Arnside - there was an article in one of the yachting mags at the time - I still have a copy) put on new sails (jeckells), centre main sheet & some little Gibb self tailing winches (purchased from the boat show for £30 ! A bit OTT but great when single handing). Black hull, white deck, mahogany brightwork, white bottom. the bees knees, a pure delight to sail with classic keelboat handling (So much nicer than modern flat bottomed fin jobs if not quite as fast) I kept her on Windermere for 10 years, then sold her when small babies demanded things like potties & things. I sold her to a gentleman from Essex. I wonder where she is now ? Said babies are all grown up & want her back !
