The Bavaria boats are much maligned in some quarters, but after the weekend I won't hear a bad word said against their owners. Having cadged a day off on Friday we decided nothing would be nicer than a quiet weekend in Bembridge. Friday night went as planned - sparkling sail, spectacular sunset, haunting calls of the waders, long trudge in the dark to the pub, etc.
Then on Saturday morning the HM comes around saying that we weren't the only ones with that idea, four rallies are due in, over 70 boats and not one under 30' LOA. One of the motor boats appeared to be a small passenger liner. We moved Evadne around the pontoon and then they started to arrive. Most seemed to be the Bav owners and Legend Owners, plus Sparks marina and the RAF (some of whom appeared to arrive by parachute).

The point is, I've never been in the middle of so many boats crewed by so many quiet, well-behaved folk. We may have missed all the wild partying and raucous behaviour by eating out at the pub, but when we got back it was as quiet as the grave with only a few lights burning and the odd quiet murmur of conversation. It would be nice if other rallies occasionally allowed non-participants to get a decent night's sleep. Thanks chaps.

Cheers for that. I was help crewing SOHAR, a 34ft. It was a good meeting and my first at Bembridge. Would do it again. I think most of us were knackered from the race earlier, plus the many bottles of wine before / during dinner that ensured we all went to bed earlier than anticipated! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Thanks for your observation and kind words Dave.

I too visited Bembridge at the weekend and was one of the many Bavaria owners attending the rally. I'm glad that our event (and that of the Legend Owners) didn't prevent your enjoyment of Bembridge.

We certainly enjoyed our visit.

And - just for information - the "new" Bavaria Owners' Association website goes live on 1st October at http://www.bavariaowners.org.uk

Look forward to that, Steve101

Haven't done a Bav OA meet yet, but the promise of a Steve101 encounter, and a gradual increase in slagging off as the booze flows makes the whole idea distinctly compelling!
