After having visited it well over a year ago, I have finally got around to compiling a page of information about the delightful navigable River Baïse (well, 60+km of it) in Gascony.

The photos are of Nérac - one of the particular historic small town highlights of the waterway.

The river is accessed from the Canal de Garonne (which runs from Toulouse to Bordeaux) at Buzet. You do need a pretty shallow draft boat to do the whole 61km south towards Auch. The historic small town of Condom, a centre of Armagnac, is on the route. The name has nothing to do with prophylactics, but there is a potentially embarrassing sexual-linguistic link between 'Baïse' and 'baise' (as in "baise-moi").

[I've posted a parallel message on the Thames/Inland forum too]
