is this scamming the scammers! Total joke, see also Quatloos.com, the Brad Christensen (?sp) exhibit if you have time and want a good laugh. Good to see some familiar names - Mariam Abacha. also, I loved the delegates/speakers may only be available following trial and extradition outcomes! Who's having a laugh here?!! In the end, I DO feel sorry for the scammers, lead a merry dance, but taken in by them? Never, thanks.

Excellent site!

LMAOROTD...

Anyway, I just had one of those "I'll buy your boat unseen, got my own shippers, who do i make the cheque payable too?" Emails. The funny thing was it was a standard email that was automatically generated ... it even left the square brackets in aka :

Dear [Seller]
I would like to buy your [boat name]...... etc !

From Sweden. wouldnt be a Swedish cheque though I am sure...

I did think of writing to say that I did not need to sell the boat as I was shortly to come into a lot of money froma friend in the Republic of Congo.. But I would not want to tell everyone... shhhh

what i did was set up a machine in my workshop with the default account as Mr Nolikum Porkinatin and then proceeded to wind them up good style.

then realised that when you get those viagra emails you can suss out from the headers and the domain name the admin contact, in the case of dot coms, for the person who runs the scabby domains that are hosting the websites that they have to use to sell the stuff, there was one in india and one in australia. once you have the admin contact name you can forward as much of the junk as you want to the bastards, make sure that you set up a hotmail email address as your email address when you set up outlook express, great satisfaction to know that you are clogging up their admin post boxes with the garbage that they are encouraging.
other thing to do is go to a few of the scabby sites and let loose the admin email address so that it gets picked up by their mass mailing progs, poetic justice eh?
most of the dot coms use admin@ for their admin contact email addresses,

I started pleading with them for help or offering them money with agreement that I got 95% of the hidden fortune in return, for some reason the amount of emails is almost nil from that model of honesty and least corrupt country in the world - Nigeria.

yeah but if you in outlook express go to file - properties - details - message source you can see all the paths it has taken, for instance this one came from sun-host-1.ipcmedia.com (10.63.252.1) by 0 with SMTP; 16 Sep 2003 01:16:02 -0000
from this you can deduce that its come from ipcmedia.com and if it was a scabby bit of spam you could look up the admin contact,
ie, Registrant:
IPC Magazines Ltd (IPCMEDIA-DOM)
Kings Reach Tower Stamford Street
London SE1 9LS
UK

Domain Name: IPCMEDIA.COM

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
Time Inc. (TI421-ORG) Domain_Control@TIMEINC.COM
1271 6th Ave.
New York, NY 10020
US
212 522 1212 fax: 212 522 1212

Record expires on 26-Oct-2005.
Record created on 07-Oct-2002.
Database last updated on 16-Sep-2003 14:44:45 EDT.

Domain servers in listed order:

DNSEXTP.TIMEINC.COM 64.236.246.232
DNSEXTB.TIMEINC.COM 64.236.246.233
DNSEXT3.TIMEINC.COM 64.236.226.10
DNSEXT4.TIMEINC.COM 64.236.226.11

and bounce it back to him, the other point i was making was that at some point you have to go to a web site to buy the stuff, as soon as you are on site you know what it is called and can do a who is on it and again spread the toerags admin address around !!
hee hee hee lol

where do i look up the admin contact? and using the example you gave, how would you address the forwarded e mails? admin@ what?

when an address is spoofed, is not the route also spoofed?

taking as an example the one i posted you can see the .com address in the bunch of techy stuff, normally it is admin@garbage.com, you go to http:// www.networksolutions.com for a .com address or http:// www.nominet.net for a .co.uk address and do a who is. taking as an example ipc as posted previously you can see the admin contact.

they cant spoof the routes cause they show up after the email has gone and any way if you are going to a site that is flogging the stuff and encouraging tosspots to send millions of emails they deserve all they get

True, up to a point, but igonres the fact that most mass mailing spammers actually hack and take over other peoples servers to do much of the mass spammimg. If you go spreading around the admin address of that server/network, you're just increasing the woes of an innocent who has not kept their security up to date

If you really want to contribute to the anti spam war / track down the spammers (in some cases), and advise the owner of the "open relay" - those are the people who are so inept at security they cant close a security hole that gets more publicity than viagra - go to http://www.spamcop.net and copy and paste the source of the email. you can see lots more information, and it will mail (anonymously) the people involved and at least get the account they are spamming from and any drop boxes/sites they have for replies/visits shut down. Most ISP's dont like spammers. Some however make a living from it.

Have fun ...

Then give up and get a good baysian filter based spam killer. (NOT the "free" product called "stop-sign" as it is scumware/malware/spyware in itself)

When I posted the site for the conference, I thought it would interesting and amusing for some, I did not expect such a response.

Good to see we have a Tasmanian in the forum, bit cool down there at the moment thou........

And, no I certainly do not plan attending the conference.
