Its the 5th/6th July.... again to coincide with the OGA Swallows and Amazons weekend.... location, at Stone Point in the Walton Backwaters.....

Events will begin late afternoon on the Saturday, with the obligatory treasure hunt... this year we'll be adding a twist.... it'll continue late into the evening with grog ashore and the following morning, if the weather permits, we'll end with a monster water battle /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So get yer swashbuckling gear ready, start training your kids, prepare your salted beef for the roaring fire on the beach, and don't forget your waterpistols!

Have you put it on the calendar ?
If not, we'll end up with people double booking weekends or forgetting when it is
Looking to be quite a busy season for some already

Not all to do with sailing, but Dave, how did you know ???. I'll be here. Pipedream will be in the Azores (hopefully). Oliver and Ben would love to go again. Saturday 5th afternoon is dress rehearsal no.1. Sunday 6th is no.2 for "Oliver" at Richmond Theatre, before 6 shows commencing Tuesday 8th. Mum coming down from Newcastle possibly 7th for a few days.

I will try my best to be there /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Definate chance Flipper will be there - nothing in the diary as yet. Maybe this will be SWMBO's weekend afloat in 2008! If so I expect we will overnight in Titchmarsh Marina (or on their pontoon outside).

Previous weekend I am at Royal Harwich so may even leave the boat somewhere on the Orwell unless I take the Friday off work - well there is an idea!

Have almost finished the Pirate Flag I started making for last year!

A very good chance Santana will be there, assuming we're OK to cross back from Holland earlier in the week. Nancy Blackett will hopefully make it to the OGA Swamazons event this year assuming she gets back from Falmouth in time, so I'll find out where and when she can be visited if anyone's interested.

As has been said on the forum many times already, last year's event was really excellent, and that was despite poorish weather.

Our crew for the outward crossing to Holland three weeks earlier will be friends we made at last year's Pirates' Weekend!

The early afternoon tides in 5th/6th are pretty convenient for Deben based boats, which is helpful.

My two also are rehearsing (Annie) so prob won't be able to make it. Will try to find a solution (maybe get the boat up earlier in the week)

Simon

It is in my diary.
All things being equal I will be there.
Not sure about crew.

Would I be correct in assuming that some fire wood in needed?

Last year I was struggling to find crew when the lovely Clive sugested I have my first attempt at sailing solo while he acted as support vessel. It was a great idea and I was all set for the epic voyage from SYH to Stone Point when a last minute crew offered her services. Since she is something of an ace crew and brilliant company, and the wind was getting up, the solo sail went on hold.

So I was thinking, I might plan to find a crew - because I like company - but if I don't find a crew, and Clive is still willing to lend a hand - I might attempt the solo voyage. But don't hold your breath. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Bernie

I am always willing to lend you a hand.
As long as there is no whips and black leather involved. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

That is the evening of my voyage into my 51st year. I normally spend the evening in Gourmet heaven with the finest wines and spirits in a candlelit atmopsphere, reflecting on life in a wonderful haze

So this year its charred chicken,Stella Artois and woodsmoke. Bloody marvellous.

Didnt I tow a large daft dinghy last year? Oh yes, I remember, nightmare of F6 in a following sea when it let go near Buxey. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And the windlass packed up. Gulp. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And Lynn was working and had to be taken to Titchmarsh at 0530 on Sunday morning. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
and the fuel ran out. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have a large park bench to lash to the foredeck again /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I will be easily recognisable as I am the owner of my dashing pirate outfit and will be wearing it again. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My pirate flag is easily the biggest in the fleet. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I want to caprture Francis's pump action boathook. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Jim - the pump action boathook is truly superb. I'm surprised they aren't readily available on the market yet. I can pump out hard to reach corners of lockers, or the dinghy before stepping down into it. It also jetwashes the deck or the anchor. It's not a particularly good boathook because the hook itself is rather small. I imagine it would be good for putting out a non electrical fire on board.

However I discovered it to be of very limited value in beach pirate warfare against kids. It just made me a target, and as they didn't mind getting wet, they just came straight through my salvo of water (range 60ft) as a group and poured their buckets of water over me.

Anyway, you won't be getting it as a birthday present.

I want one - where can I get it? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
If it is a toss up between Bernie in leather and whips and the 'boathook', I'm sorry Bernie but the boathook wins! Boys and their toys etc /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif and SWMBO might be there too!!!!

SWMBO and I would very much like to attend however not having any ankle biting mini Pirates of our own i suspect we are going to have to steal some from somewhere.

However that does have the advantage that we can leave them at Stone point when we are finished with them and enjoy a peaceful sail home.

Nev,
I did that last year. Mixed results.
We stand a chance of bringing our Grandson this year though. He will be 21 months, and I have the lifejacket that fits.

[/ QUOTE ] Hope they're better than today!... well the tides were OK, but the weather.... oh the weather!

A decent sized sea running, huge black clouds marching along the coast, each of which brought a delightful combination of 30+kts squalls and hail!!!!! add to that a low single digit temperature, and the wind being bang on the nose, and it wasn't that great... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
