Hot on the heels of MainlySteam's version !!

I reckon this forum will be full video wherever you are in the world.

You will be able to choose which threads you participate in, and will be able to see the other posters on a PDA-like screen, whether sat at home in the living room, in a pub, or on the boat.

It will make it much easier to explain the more technical aspects, for example Bedouin could show us his Asymetric in real life!

Jimi, ParaHandy and Claymore could talk about caulies in their own dialect, and really bring it to life with suitable facial expressions etc

Oh, and tcm will be generally talking whether anybody is paying attention or not!

Kim could block transmissions in real time if the images become unacceptable!

What else would you expect on the forum in 22 years time?

In 22 years time I'll be 78 !

Probably docked in that final harbour, but with advances in technology, I may still be participating on the ol' celestial fourm !

On the other hand, I could be down the pub telling sea-stories, and generally being a grumpy old sod !!

Some forumites will be in the race to their 100,000th post and will have 100 1000 post flags to prove it flying from their various appendages.

While it will all be video and virtual, smell will be excluded by an elderly Kim because of many complaints from the colonies about the smelliness of the great unwashed English yachtsman.

All the ybw magazines will be electronically delivered to forumites free (heres hoping!).

The older forumites will be reminiscing about the fine build quality of Bav's, etc back in 2003 and how they don't build them that well anymore.

The younger forumites will be praising their 2025 EMAWB's (Even More AWB's) which will be round so sail equally badly in any direction and which fall apart after 6 months.

There will be discussions about whether one should rely alone on the AGNS (Advanced Galactic Navigation System) which automatically positions the boat within 1 mm, or whether one should still back up with GPS and a plotter. Old paper charts will be sought after as collectors items by some forumites, especially if there are grubby bacon and egg stains and smudged 2B pencil lines on them.

Pressures for political correctness and staying on forum theme from some forumites will mean that we cannot refer to each other by name and every sentence has to include the word "yacht" or "boat" a minimum of three times (will be in Terms and Conditions 2.3) and always say please and thankyou.

With video monitoring forumites will no longer be able to pull faces or hold up two fingers ordering 2 copies of YM anymore when they get growled at by Kim.

But best of all forumites will still be manic depressives who don't seem to have to work or ever sleep.

John

Unfortunately I will not be with you in 2025. My computer is in the loft and access is via a rather rickety loft ladder. Judging by my fast exit on Sunday morning when gravity took over as I attempted an unroped ascent with coffee in one hand - I have a limited access to this facility.
My pension will probably not run to affording the technological advancements which will connect me to the loft bound PC as I sit on my commode in some downstairs room and finally - I will in all probablility have forgotten all about the forum by then - it will have gone the way of my car keys, the milk and my specs - consigned to the dusty areas of a memory that once worked quite well, but doesn't any more.

Re: Violins playing..tears rolling down cheek ..

Or you could be cryogenically preserved ready to thaw as soon as Claymore is back in the water!

Ignore Jimi he's obviously morbid!

ye miserable pikers ....

firstly, pensions: the government having successively advanced age of retirement, finally dish out the bus pass and pension book. you are now very, very rich and thus very, very attractive to young women so the twilight of our lifes (with medical advances etc) is spent in some pleasure .....

2nd, climate change: the M25 is now a moat round London and travel by boat is the only viable method of transport. Gatso cameras have forced stinkpots into extinction and congestion charging is no longer required as the city is completely underwater. Ken Livingstone has unlimited opportunity to go back to doing what he was best at - breeding newts

3rd Scotland: being mainly on high ground, Scotland declares independence in order to keep the poms out. I become the Scottish ambassador and augment my income as in 1 above by vetting applications from english gits claiming scots ancestry ...

4th Forum: is taken over by Wendy McDeng, fragrant widow of media magnate Rupert McMurdoch, with HQ in Sauciehall St, Glasgow. The forum has a makeover and re-appears with tartan borders, sprigs of heather screen savers and crossed swords or claymores ...

Life is wunnerful ......

When you're tired of Oysters you're tired of life! Fishing trips in a Bav, cheers mate.

Shouldn't you have been tucked up next to Mrs SB instead of waxing lyrical on what happens when you get to our age?
