Caladh is at the top of the east kyle surely is it not rather than the west

Wreck bay is pretty much entered when taking the west of the two routes through the burnt islands and lovely it is too

we will be on our way to the crinan that day so would not make the 16/17 - it being glasgow fair it is guaranteed to rain as it always does it seems - we will make a meet in the clyde at some point I hope

I did think of you all when woken in my house in glasgow on saturday night by the wind outside!!

Keep to the south channel and wreck bay is on Bute on your left as you head west past Eilean Mor.

Depends where you want to stop the west Kyle and start the east Kyle

From Troon the usual approach, for me at least, is up the west Kyle past Kames hotel and Tighnabruaich to the entrance to Loch Riddon (Caladh Harbour). /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Burnt Isles are usually taken as the "border" between the two Kyles so Caladh harbour would be in the west Kyle at the entrance to Loch Riddon.

i understand

we always take it the other way and consider the west kyle to start at kames

a gorgeous place no matter what you call it!!

How about 55'.54'4''N 5'14'16''W, for a relaxing meal and drinks after your leisurely sail up thru the kyles to this watering hole at tignabruaich...

reminds me of our charter holidays and my day skipper practical with swmbo for a week from largs, a great place to sail and not at all crowded.....

wherever you decided to go, don't forget the talisker......

Those co-ordinates look familiar but I personally would not use the buoys at the from of the Hotel. From what I heard the hotel is not really interested any more in the yachyie folk and have not had the moorings services in teh last 3, or is it 4, years! I may be wrong on this as "scuttlebutt" can be unreliable but the last time I lifted one of the buoys I was not impressed so we took a wee potter round to ELT. Must call the hotel sometime and ask when the moorings were last serviced.

Re: Next Clyde Meet - When and Where?

Good to hear that some of you made it. We were up at Oban where I was finishing the Day Skipper course which I started during the Easter Hols. and were aware that conditions on late Saturday and Sunday were deteriorating and thought of how you were faring in Kilchattan Bay.

Next week, weather permitting, we hope to bring Calandra up from Kippford to the Clyde for her summer holiday so perhaps we might cross paths with some Clyde cruisers in the next few weeks.

If you see a Westerley Centaur with green dodgers etc.. say hello.

If it's Kames you are talking about, the moorings have been serviced. You are correct in saying that the hotel is not interested in yachties, though. Very smokey when we were in two weekends ago. The Royal has moorings which have been serviced, but the bar is very small, though if you can afford it the food is reasonably good - but overpriced..

We have swithced alleigance to the Colintraive. Only three (serviced) moorings, but you can anchor safely between the moorings and the ferry slip in 6m

Agreed - Colintraive does seem a little more yottie friendly and good anchorage if moorings are all taken.

O.K. When and where for next meet?

Is the concensus of opinion 16th/17th and colintraive / wreck bay / caladh harbour.

colintraive? is there a pub/restaurant of the same name in that area, we are looking for other watering holes to visit as we are hoping to be passing thru during our three week cruise in august.Hoping to sail the west coast and go thru the crinan canal, and ambling thru the kyles, as it has been about 5 years since we were there last, we visited one of the hotels there cant remember if it was the kames or royal, but they have a shinty bar, and we had an excellent meal there, but it was midweek and nice and quiet, we spent most of the evening there with crew from another boat we had met on the way thru the kyles...

shinty bar is the royal - nice but food expensive for what it is - see also post above re moorings

colintraive v good - three moorings and space to anchor - new owners recently I think - we went and thought it v good

I was doing a search for Wreck Bay & look what I found.

So! .... can we have more of the same sometime soon please! :D

Nice picture, one of those thought provoking ones. I never got to sail on his boat although he did offer, sadly his illness took over very quickly before i got the chance. I did meet the guy who bought his boat I think it's down on the Solway now.

This thread brought back some memories..... 'twas quite a weekend - good food, good drinkie-poos and good craic even if the weather was ****.
Just met up in Kilchatten bay and hit the hotel then the fun started getting back to the boats. Even more fun ferry gliding across the west channel to the Wee Cumbrae for a bit of shelter from the southerly. Continuing the glide out into the east channel then trying to do a 180° to head for Largs Yacht Haven, not to mention the fun in the marina trying to berth with over 25kts of wind howling through the marina.
Who is organising the next one? and when?
