Did anybody hear the "Open Country" programme early one morning on Sunday over the winterval on the BBC.*
Programme was devoted to everyone who over the last 50 years ,some early enthusiasts being no longer with us,who devoted time and money to reversing the decline of the river which was basically a sewer in the lower stretches and full of farmers chemicals in the upper bits.
Several bits of the waterway featured including a visit to Sonning and interviews with parish representatives, water bailiffs and boat enthusiasts.
A timely reminder of just what an asset ANY river can be,but these things need actively to be cared for.
*The BBC.A pinko liberal gay wet propaganda organisation mismanaged by ex hippies and profligate time serving public service spongers who cannot get a proper job and most probably with some teachers sculking in there for good measure.
