For putting the water pump impellor in the most awkward place you could on the 4jh3 hte engine
4 hours of struggling to do a ten minute job , next time probably be able to do it in three hours as I have now moved the pipe clips so they are round the right way and I am the proud owner of a suberb jabsco impellor puller , half an hour pulling with long nosed plyers being a waste of time but with the puller easy peasy
anybody that wants a complete blow by blow account of how to do the job message me but suffice to say it involves an awfull lot of dismantling of various parts

weirdly I quite enjoyed myself tho !!

I recall watching a You Tube video of how to change an impeller. Easy Peasy I thought. Later I watched the engineer change them on my twin D3s, previous boat.

Cramped space, difficult access , difficult to get the blighters out. Cannot remember how long it took him - but I was happy to pay him to do the job.

Funny enough just had mine serviced and the engineer said that it was a complete bugger to get at and change. So will leave that job alone

Sometimes it easier to remove pump, they never were easy to get at on some yanmars.

I did look at pump removal but the engine mount bracket covers one of the bolt holes so that scuppered that route

Put some soap down into the housing thru on of the hoses and twist the engine a bit. Then the impeller will be a lot easier to remove.
Have the same engine in a customers Nimbus 27 Familia and the soap makes it a pretty easy job. Don't even use a puller. Only screwdrivers to get the impeller out

Yanmar 6LY must be worst of all engines to change impeller. Removing the pump is a must on most boats that have the 6LY
