Wonder no more - 'fecker' was in regular use (in Cork at least) well before Father Ted graced the screen

And across most of Ireland I think. My mother talks about the shock when Londoners in the 1950s heard a nice middle class girl from Dublin use the word "feck" as if it was as harmless as "flip"

Naff Off from Porridge and Smeg from Red Dwarf are made up swear words, I think. The words were already there but not used that way before.

Naff is supposed to come from the polari - 'not available for fecking'. I always assumed smeg came from smegma which you can look up for yourself!
