Hello All
Kal, Elke, Tony and family would like to thank everyone for their support, kind wishes and cards at the recent sad passing of Bab’s, also many thanks to all the staff at C.B.Y.C.
The funeral was a great success with Elke, Kal and Tony presenting separate eulogies, there was a slide show with some of Bab’s favourite music, everyone was dressed in bright attire and after the funeral at the Cardiff Bay Yacht Club Rocking Dave regaled us with some of Bab’s favourite songs and there was an excellent buffet.
Kindest regards
Tony Davies
Bab’s eulogy
Hello Everyone… and good afternoon, it’s good to see so many here…
Thank you for for coming to say goodbye to Babs…
Barbara... Bab's... was my best friend… and I loved her…
I first met Bab's in the early nineteen eighties…
1982… I recall, and from our very first meeting she stole my heart…
In truth, she stole the hearts of everyone she met…
She had a presence, you felt you could touch…
And everyone who knew her would agree, I know…
She was a wonderfully warm person…
Bab’s… was my best friend and also my crew… how lucky can you be…
She loved the boat and unlike me was never ever seasick…
Mind you, she did have an uncanny knack of predicting the weather…
And many times she delayed our departure…
Stating the weather would improve later…
And invariably it did…
Somehow, she seemed to know when the conditions were suitable…
I’ve often wondered how she did that…
The boat never fazed her, even though the craft was actually designed to be sailed with six roughty tufty sailor- men…
She managed to cope, and she only weighed 8 stone - wringing wet…
She was my only crew in all our time together!!!
She was amazing, I can tell you…
We also used my trailer sailer… and in the summer we would be away somewhere or another…
Along with me, she was one of Rocking Dave's top fans…
Dave’s a local singer who has a superb voice…
And whenever he sang somewhere near…
Then we would go to hear him…
He’s absolutely great and Babs never tired of him…
Dancing… Babs loved to dance... hybrid jive... that was us…
Make it up as you go along…
She needed to be on her toes to follow me… I'll tell you!!
But somehow she had the ability to follow my every move…
Anticipating, before I did it…
How she did this… I’ll never know…
There’s nothing nicer than to dance with a girl that is light as a feather and follows your every move...
And that was Bab’s… She was wonderful…
Whenever we got the chance… then we were up...
Cribbage… she loved to play, and we had many thousands of games…
She was always up for a challenge…
I have a small crib board… and whenever we had a spare moment, then out it came…
She was very competitive and didn’t like to loose… who does?
She was also a voracious reader and also loved quizzes and crosswords… and she was very clever and bright…
Up until the end she still was answering questions on the weakest link… bless her…
She was gregarious and on exactly the same wavelength as me… she was also a bit of a tomboy… and I liked that…
Always up for some fun… she enjoyed doing something different everyday…
She also participated in my many interests
And liked meeting my friends... she was absolutely magic…
I still can’t believe she’s gone… she was the greatest ever…
We had many adventures in the “Bones” over the years and they were halcyon days…
Bab’s you are simply the best…
Please… join us at the Cardiff Bay Yacht Club later…
Where there will be refreshments… and Rocking Dave will be regaling us with some of Bab’s favourite songs.
