Thank St Greta for saving us

Simples,
It is a lot of effort to address something of no consequence. In short a waste of money and effort.
There are some
80,000 motor boats
40000 yachts
46000 power boats
31000 canal boats
40000 jet skis.
230000 in all, most of which spend all month stationary

and 38000000 vehicles.... most of which are driven each day.

Like the sainted Greta, it smacks of a publicity stunt.

How much emissions are attributable to other hobbies such as driving to the mountains for a spot of hill walking..

Well said Sir!

Tomahawk has given a full answer so far as vehicle emissions is concerned but all this pales into insignificance compared with the huge numbers of coal fired power stations in China, India, Poland, etc. Not to mention coke production for steel making, refinery cat crackers and many other major sources of CO2.

Is the concern CO2 emissions or particulates?

I think a lot of the worry and and likely call to action will be due to proximity and population. Particulates and leisure boating is a pretty narrow problem, outside of a few urban marinas I can't see sailboats having much real impact at all?

The guy with a marginal lifestyle running a poorly maintained BMC in the middle of town to charge batteries at 10pm, the shiny new boat people running their Eberspacher and burning coal 200 yards from Boris Johnson's old house, the guy 200 meters away from me right now running a clapped out frame generator on a urban towpath however..

The big fuss is all about St Greta sailing to a meeting so she can tell people to panic without flying.
Somewhat undermined by the return trip crew (5) flying out to America.
St Greta could have flown and produced lass carbon footprint.
She could have hoped on a cargo ship as a passenger. Her carbon footprint would be non existent.

Who are the return trip crew?

Holly Cova, official spokeswoman for team Malizia, has told the press that a minimum of two crew will be flown out for the return trip. She concedes that it isn't an 'optimal solution' ... and actually admits that zero carbon ocean crossings are technically impossible.
That's at least 2 sailors being flown out, but.. no mention by Holly of the hundreds of PR people, world press crews and their entourages, throngs of gullible climate activists, not to mention shady representatives of transnational energy consortiums and their staff, plus the politicians of all shades ( but especially ultra-radical green marxists) and their various press people, security staff, it goes on and on.. the whole absurd circus must have the carbon footprint of a F1 Grand Prix race!

The resulting global publicity has happily highlighted the eco-extremists' blatant hypocrisy and sinister political agenda, while uncritical supporters now resemble easily duped mugs, unwilling to admit their own gullibility.
The ill-advised Malizia/Greta carbon stunt, not standing up to even casual scrutiny, has catastophically backfired and the backroom Green Power PR strategists, and their temporary allies the crazed german ultra-socialists, will be brainstorming new approaches.

A most excellent piece of subjective waffle! Well done. :encouragement:

Rantastic.

I think you'll find the lounge is right through that door over there where there's plenty of other bitter recycled formerly banned misanthropes to discuss your theories on the threat to society posed by a 16 year old in a racing yacht with.

Oh did I say "recycled"? apologies if that smacks of eco extremism

I will leave this thread to the previously mentioned "easily duped mugs, unwilling to admit their own gullibility" , so they don't need to shame themselves by making personal attacks to distract from their lack of facts.

We may usefully add the oil fired power stations in the Middle East who will, as I have been assured by someone in a big oil company, be burning all the high sulphur fuel oil that ships won’t be burning from next January.

Be that as it may, I’d like to congratulate Ms Thunberg and the boat’s owners and crew.
