We're planning a trip up the Thames next month expecting to stay up to a week. What are the pro's and cons of St Katherines over Limehouse? No longer of Member of the CA if that makes any differance and have been to St Katherines about 10 years ago.Probably go into Queenborough on the way down from Walton. Are there any other berthing places in Central London to consider?
Thanks in advance
Bill

We stayed at Limehouse last week and throughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very helpful and the marina has better access than St. Kat's. There were a number of eateries nearby, ask the staff for details.

Limehouse is very very friendly. Walk towards the river and turn downstream on the road that crosses the swing bridge, in a few hundred yards there are a few fabulous, traditional pubs backing onto the river. The pub on the corner of the lock used to be fabulous too but now its got a Gordon Ramsey badge and I found it pompus and overpriced albeit good since the change.
St Kats very helpful but noisy and more expensive but lots of choice of chain type places.
Limehouse a couple of extra stops on DLR into town but that's not a big deal.
There's a marina on the south bank I think but I've not been there.

Was in Limehouse last week and at £17 per night (group rate for 3 boats pre booked) found it excellent value. Staff very helpful. Facilities are a bit tired but there is a deep clean planned for next week (I think) so the place is kept in good condition.

Just downstream you have the Grapes - good & varied choice of beer & told bar food is good. Resturant upstairs looked a bit pricy. Just a few doors further down is Booties - good pint ot London Pride. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

DLR is 5 mins (if that) walk.

2 of the boats had been to St Kats in the last couple of years but not tried Limehouse before. They do not plan on using St Kats again!

The marina on the south bank of the Thames is called South Dock Marina. I havent been there or infact to any of the Thames marina's, but me and SWMBO are going for our first trip up the Thames in a few weeks time too. We have decided to go to St Kats because of the convenience. Its only a 5 min walk to Tower tube station.
