I have a wild idea. Thinking about taking my mobo from the Thames, along the south coast and around to Cardiff. Anyone ever done the run? Would do it next year as a 'holiday'. Guessing about 700 miles? 100 miles a day with a few decent stops over a two week run? She cruises about 22knts although I need to have a careful think about fuel costs although the point is to have the adventure not just about the cost over road transport?

Lot of 'ground' to cover in two weeks but eminately doable. Your two main concerns other than the usual are finding a weather window that lets you meet that kind of daily average and the derth of marinas and fuel between Falmouth and Bristol.

But a great trip and a sling shot around the Isles of Scilly is well worth a go if youve not done so before.

Keep us posted and let us see your passage plan!

Did Amsterdam to river severn last year in late May early June, not travelling in the dark as was single handed. Just legged it on the charts and it is 470 ish dover to cardiff.
Cruising @ 7.5kn days at sea went as follows with very favorable tides.

Vlissingen to Anch in Dover outer harbour
Anch off Bembridge St helens fort
Via Weymouth, stop for fav tide round portland bill Anch off Dartmouth This was the longest day 04 to 22
Anch off Falmouth (st maws)
Anch off Rock (padstow)
Anch off Porlock Weir (Could have easily made Cardiff)
Moored Sharpness in canal.

In a similar displacement speeds, teddington to harty ferry one day , next day would be newhaven.

Fab fab fab trip. do it after all what is a boat for.....

You can do it on the canals to the Bristol Channel. Article in one of mags about Richard Stillgoe circumnavigating southern England.

You can but get your measurements right!
A friend of mine had a steel wide beam catamaran hulled custom build built down that way and tried to bring it back to the thames via the thames and Kennet etc,got it stuck and it cost him a lot of money to extract himself from the situation with crane, truck, crane.
Don't think they'd appreciate 22knots down the canals,Rosie and Jim would spill their tea:)

Ironically I live very close to the K&A (5 mins walk). All although it would be a shorter journey the Squadron may not be the shape it started :-). I know a few folk who've done the journey from Sharpness to London and they thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'll have more influence over the journey times than I did when the boat was delivered so hopefully won't have a repeat of the damage at the lower end of the Thames!

Hi sounds like a nice trip to me I recently took my mobo from vigo in spain up the atlantic coast of portugual and round to the algarve 400 mile trip . I would say our longest run was 95 miles from porto to nazerre which the crew didnt enjoy as much as the shorter hops I reckon 60 miles tops is good to break up your trip I did 2000 euros in fuel but would say the experience far outweighed any money spent. the trip was really varied from port to port and has given me the bug to do the same next year round to the med and beyond. hope you go for it as i am sure you will enjoy it good luck
