Thames River Conditions 2014

40cm below historic high here and falling. Further 8-10cm expected in Staines tonight apparently. And all that Abingdon stuff yet to come....
 
Nobody has mentioned 2003 anywhere, the highest recorded levels at the stations do not state when they occoured.
Days Lock near Abingdon has now passed the highest recorded level, haven't checked the others but they must be there as well, its very wet up here!

Yes I queried Abingdon levels for 2003 as well. My concern relates to information being quoted on this forum which is misleading e.g. Penton Hook 2003 levels were approx 40cm higher than currently quoted as highest. I appreciate that peaks have not yet been reached and that further rain is expected.
 
Ref Penton Hook - Info on EA website for 0945 this morning - upstream of lock:
The river level at Penton Hook is 1.00 metres.
This measurement was recorded at 09:45 on 08/01/2014.
The typical river level range for this location is between 0.08 metres and 0.29 metres.
The highest river level recorded at this location is 1.03 metres and the river level reached 0.86 metres on 28/12/2012.

Problem is a lot of the stations have only been installed in the last 10 years or so, so the highest recorded level is not necessarily the highest ever just since the
sensor went live. Abingdon Lock is now equal to its highest level but we do not know when that was, Culham the next lock down for instance is still about 80cm below
its highest so there is a lot of local variation depending on when the sensor started recording. From my own experience of observing the river for the last 40 years
the level is not at the 2003 height everywhere but it is in places. The best thing to do is observe your local station and see how it relates to your location, the river
behaves very differently along its length even lock reach to lock reach.

My queries have all related to 2003 when levels below the Jubilee River were highest since 1947. The figures being quoted from EA stations probably cover periods post 2003 which has already been stated by Chris_d. I will not post further on this matter.
 
Summer flow is about 20/30 at a guess , there's no 'normal' amount

That's worked out from the minimum amount ( lower thames operating agreement ) that should go over the weir.

800,000,000 litres per day ( lower thames agreement ) / 24 / 3600 gives 9.25 cumecs , we don't get there that often so I doubled it up.
