2014 update for alerting other YBW users to Thames River conditions and other urgent information for river users.

Any registered forum user can post a message on this thread (and this thread only for reasons that will become clear) if there is a sudden change in conditions or other urgent information. With the number of people here out and about and living on the river, this has proved to be a very valuable tool.

If you want to receive alerts, click on 'Thread Tools' at the top of this thread and select 'Subscribe To This Thread' from the dropdown. Then select 'Instant Notification by Email' and then click on 'Add subscription'.

If you do this, ANY post to this thread will automatically be emailed to your registered email address. Provided you have a mobile with email capability you will then receive messages as they are posted without needing to visit the website.

Please note this thread is not for general discussion and ONLY to report river/weather conditions and other urgent information which may be helpful to river users so please, do not post here unless that is the case.

Latest EA stream warnings/status are available here:

That would be on the tide this afternoon ? Levels at Stevens ait / broom park would have been near normal before the tide kicked off.

There is an alert out , the two areas below cover your area. You can subscribe and get alerts by email , SMS or by fax :)

There are big tides all this week , it is worth checking your boat daily if you are concerned.

River conditions website also advises owners to check their lines.

Actionmat,

Genuinely I'm surprised you haven't noticed tides at Broom Park before. While 'tis true that today's level was a bit higher than we've seen for a while, the general appearance of the attached plot of levels at Kingston is often seen for a few tides around a large spring, even when river flows are not particularly high.

I am struck however by the fact that the level at your moorings today was sufficiently high to cause damage, because at my location just downstream of Teddington lock, although the level was (relatively) exceptional, it was only a few inches higher than levels which we typically see several times a year.

So it may be that under these circumstances the river temporarily adopts a surprisingly high gradient, as the top of the tide squeezes into the relatively narrow/shallow reach above the lock?

A.

There are some new boats down there, one had a chain for security that has knackered the bow rail and torn it from the hull, another had his ropes set with little allowance for change, (resulting in a mooring post thats been pulled out) plus a boat that had hull fittings just below the waterline and would have been in trouble had I not dealt with it. I couldn't get to Cleansweep, but you can see it's being pulled down in the picture. Yes I have seen high levels before, but never this high. The wreaths at the war memorial in radnor gradens were underwater, it may only have been that bad for an hour but there will be some insurance claims as a result of it.

Don't want to be a party pooper but can you please take this discussion to another thread?

River in the Abingdon area currently only 10cm off its record high and still rising, roads closed across Culham and Clifton Hampdon bridges, flood water through Sutton Courtney.
Its all on its way downstream so be ready even if the rain stops :(

Are you referring to 2012 highest on EA Abbingdon upstream station lock data or 2003 ?

Data refers to 2012 not 2003

Shouldn't be posting in this thread uncle B1 will be watching, but the highest recorded reading at that station is 1.27m no date given (1.24m in 2012), current level at 12:00 today is now 1.21m, believe me it is very close to the 2003 level.
