All reds and streams continuing to increase. Maidenhead reading today just under 140m³/sec. Just for comparison, on Xmas Eve last year it reached over 180cumets/sec !

Most of the boats at my moorings had their tarpaulins half off and blowing in the wind last night. From my house I can see one missing garage roof and a couple of sheds with their felt gone, I'm sure the actual wind speed was a lot worse than reported on the BBC weather page.

Actually, I was not trying to use a special acronym, simply being a little lazy in my abbreviation. Anways, according to Wikipedia CUMECS is slang - you wouldn't wish me to lower myself to that "level" would you ? (Pun intended !

Oh, MinorSwing - Teds is more qualified than I to explain but rate of flow is not necessarily directly related to volume of water - a small amount of water can flow more quickly in a confined channel than high amounts spread out over the floodplain. - at least, I think thats correct. There's also the Jubilee River effect - but that's another story and I mustn't miss Dr Who......

You'll need to speak to flood forecasting and river control , and the people that issue the flood warnings as they work in cumecs. Perhaps they are unaware of the 'correct' term ?

Hope I'm not doing the wrong thing posting here, but driving around guildford and Shalford today I felt for the poor buggas in longboats (?) around there. I for one couldn't even guess where the river Wey was, banks not just burst, exploded more like! and another shedload on the way Thursday night/Friday. I hope they're all OK.

Yesterday mornings flow rate at Maidenhead dropped back slightly to 154m³/sec but this morning has shot up to 183m³/sec - slightly higher than the peak last Xmas Eve. This could mean Jubilee has been shut in or, and possibly more likely, that an awful lot more water is coming downriver.

I had branches and assorted river debris hanging on top of my ropes and one rope had snapped. A good Samaritan loosened my front ropes or I would have been in trouble; I wish I knew who it was as I'm very grateful. I'm also glad the rope snapped or she could have sunk.
The large floating structure that's been tied alongside Stevens Eyot since November is now on its side and looks a right mess. The wind ripped my tarpaulin clean off, but it's the rise in the river that worries me. Is the info on levels published in the same way that red boards are?
