Greetings all,
First post on this forum although have been following threads with interest since meeting Clive G at Stone point a couple of years ago with our Evolution 25 Mbizi (now sailing Sadler 32). I am planning a passage form our base at the RHYC up the Thames in Aug. Was wondering if most of you use the Wallet and Spit Way or whether it is better to go via the Middle Deep to Queenborough? It seems that Q'boro is the stop off place waiting for the flood up to London. Any thoughts or options would be good to hear about.
Many thanks,
Ben

+1 for Stangate Creek. Queenboro is a bit, well, not very nice...

I wrote these notes on accessing Stangate Creek a few years back for WCCs website, when I used to run it. I am no longer a member there and I don't think these notes are available on the website any more. CHECK THEM ON AN UP TO DATE CHART BEFORE USE.

Wallet and Spit Way - perfectly sound least miles passage to Queenborough. Going further out to turn south has no particular attractions or defects. As an east coaster, the smidgin of water over the Spit Way will not disturb you, but be ready least the crew holler you're going aground...

Everyone will warn of Queenborough and its limitations - but it's a good place to tie up if you have no further expectations. Getting ashore is a pain so be ready to fire up the galley and think great thoughts about the historic voyage up the Thames next tide past the ghosts of galleys and men o' war...

You'll need the whole tide to get up to London so depart QB just short of LW, and watch the depth over the bank outside the Medway en route to the upriver channel

THank you folks. Peter hope you are OK - we did Tony's electrics course this winter. Managed to sort out my Bukh electrics finally!
Will be looking at Q'boro until the last of the ebb so as to make use of all of the flood. Do you hop all the way to Q'boro or stop off in the blackwater on route - cant remember where you are based.

In 6.5 knot displacement cruiser, did Ipswich to Erith Yacht Club moorings in one hit (about 13 hours). From the Blackwater easy to take the tide all the way up to Teddington leaving the Spitway buoys at LW. Always tried to avoid Queenboro' because a bit unpleasant & lost time going in and out, better if you have to stop on route at Thurrock or Erith.

I'm doing the trip next Sunday. We'll be heading through Goldmer outside the gunfleet and into the London River; overnight at Stangate before taking the next day's flood up to St Kats
