Thames Navigation User Forum - June meeting

Agreed. I think the TMBA and B1 do a very difficult and good job, and try to represent most Thames motor boaters interests. I am a member.

the attempts to encourage folks to get on their bikes :) has advantages for all .....
It helps to reduce congestion by way of removing commuters from roads,it improves the health of the population in general by reducing pollution especially in cities....
and is healthy exercise !

not sure that chugging up the Thames while sitting on ones bum, emitting untreated fumes, handing your rope to a lockie and then turning round and coming back down again has quite the same effect on public health. :)

It gets the family out in the great outdoors and gets us spending money eating out etc. And there's the added benefit to the economy of weeks of staycations where my cash gets spread up and down one hundred miles of the non tidal rather than cheap polluting flights and money spent abroad. You might sit on your bum, we walk for miles. A lot of it spent dodging idiots on the towpath who can't be bothered to ring their bicycle bells to let us know they're approaching.

What are the extremist views on here or the river B1 ?

Scary stuff like charging other river users more eg rowers, swimmers, regattas etc etc - you wait here they come to dismiss it.
This forum is really 5-9 active people and 2 knowalls. Bit repetitive.

Does this sound like someone who is going to chase the trottman issue? well does it?
"Oh how I wish you'd all stop whinging about the slum boats and help draw attention to the need for those of us that pay significant registration fees to get better service when we use the river."

Glad Crusty posted this:- "You should post what you think even if others disagree, that's called healthy debate."
I get lots dont agree with me here (out of the tiny number of active posters), but its a free country and sorry guys there are quite a few like me out there.

At least with ATYC members can go to a regular meeting and make their point, not just get emailed retweets from EA Twitter..

We know what they are up against, total Muppets, problem is we dont have anyone that represents our views.

Oh we know what they are up against, muppets and the term "reps" is not accurate, they arent representing us.

So buy a train ticket to go and sit in a room, and bite your tongue for hours. Nah, you are not selling it to me.

If we cant talk, no point.
Why don't you go along to the meeting and sit beside each other? You seem to share very similar views and might even find out you are twins who were separated at birth!:D
It is your responsibility when you take membership fees from people to represent their views not just yours.

So are you a member???

Not for much longer

Used to be. Got fed up with broken record

So we share views, and vocab. Thats hardly groundbreaking is it? i can think of another two forum users that also spout the same stuff too, Zzzzzz

The trouble is, thats all they do.

Spout the same political misery that leads nowhere, despite all the talk.

Neither post anything positive about the wonderful boating experiences, holidays, weekends out on the river or meetings with groups of other happy boaters.

It's dragged the forum down to the extent many people don't bother any more. The same boring old drivel day after day.....:disgust:

Had to post a reply with quote so I can read it again. Thanks for your support!

I rather than cheap polluting flights and money spent abroad. .

err... thought your post was concerned with the goverment squandering zillions on cycling :) rather than promoting the advantages of chugging up and down the same bit of river again and again and .....and again :)

Cycling does nothing for the economy, it costs everyone money. What's wrong with chugging up and down the same 100(anything higher than a NB or a Freeman)miles of navigable Thames? I thoroughly enjoy it. I think I'm extremely lucky to live next to it and after travelling around most of the world by plane and motorbike I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be.

I can think of quite a few places I'd rather be but, unless I suddenly manage to get on the Sunday Time Rich List, afloat on the Thames is by far and away the most enjoyable place I CAN be. I have recently relocated and now live within a mile of the river - cant think why we left it so long!
