Thames Mooring

Depends what you want to pay and what you want from your mooring

Abingdon is a nice quiet marina, floating pontoons, shore power, water, elsan point, secure with gated parking.
On the downside, showers and a bar would be nice to haves but not really necessary.

As merely an observer and bearing in mind last years deluge(s), would personally be v.keen on somewhere with floating pontoons.
A few bits of scaffolding bashed into the bank and no way of getting to my boat when levels rise covering walkways seems a bit worrying. If river is in flood, its when you most desperately want access to boat to check stuff.
Still.you pays your money and takes your choice. ?

As previously mentioned, it depends upon which stretch of river you wish to frequent!

We tried Thames and Kennet marina, very pleasant it was, if you want to enjoy day trips up to Pangbourne or down to Henley, with the obvious longer trips to wherever.

We then moved to Bray, where you can pop down to Staines, or up to henley, and frankly it's a lot more 'exciting' (I use the word loosely LOL) on the basis Windsor is an hour downstream, and enjoys surprisingly good value for money, Staines around 3 hours, and plenty to do, whilst upstream trips would see you mooring at Cliveden, which is lovely (bring your own food!) Cookham (Food ashore) or past Marlow and 'The Bounty' to Hurley Island at Harleyford.

IMHO, it's a no-brainer, which is why we moor at Bray, which in itself is lovely. One day away from Teddington, and thus three hours from St Kats, is as good as it gets!
