"My" film crew ready and waiting for our arrival at South Dock.

Err,unfortunately no...they were filming a scene from a upcoming film to be called "City Slackers" about a chap who makes a big killing in the city and this scene is him sitting on his boat.As you can see all motorboats obviously come complete with a uniformed young lady to serve ones champagne, not sure who the other two thesps are but wife has vague recollections of them being assorted stuff.

Film has this chap as the lead !

We Finally arrive with the weather going manky very fast to be met by the nice chap who runs Imperial.
After the briefing we do our very best form up behind the man powered boys and the
"Wood Worm" fleet ,sorry classic boats.

Sarah T is now parked in South Dock awaiting collection because Mrs Oldgit does not do F5/7 esp.off Sheerness.
Nice to see other forumites and ex MBM staffers.
Ps.Sarah T and her oscar quality crew are in the background of some of the shots and expect shortly........to be on the editing room floor.
Kept getting told to act naturally and not keep looking round at what the actors were up to. :)

I thought you all had to have radios and bits of paper to get there . Looks like a right mess to me :D Good to see the Eel Pie gang there on Lodestar.

Hmm.......Ref radios, who was the culprit, sitting on their radio mike for most of the time we were parked at Imperial, completely blocking 72 and and giving us a running commentory on the days events :)

And of course by far,the best performance of the day in keeping station and doing things as per the instructions was row D.

For those of you not familar with movie icons of the 20th century and for whom "Shirley Valentine" means nothing, thats Tom Conti....just ask the wife !

I think you all need a bit more practice before the real thing . You do know the whole country is going to be watching you !
Ive booked you all in HERE for the day so you can polish up your act . No need to thank me , just practice and get it right .

I think you'll find line B was the best :)

Once we got into formation it went well and was extremely enjoyable. It did seem that some people were in a formation all of their very own (I think the boat two ahead of OldGit was one). A number things simply didn't go to plan (locking into Richmond... locking into West India... forming up...) and the VHF was a bit confusing at times (well, times when it wasn't the channel blocker!). Otherwise it was fine!

Having seen this on the Dunkirk return, it is very hard to control a large number of diverse boats in formation with amateur crew. And our return was in open water (admittedly through the shipping lanes). We also only had 50 not the vast numbers they are predicting for next year. We managed but it was through a lot of briefings and a clear control system.

Maintaining any sort of control of the flotilla in the relatively narrow Thames will be a challenge to say the least.

Did you go into West India ?

Yes, I think we locked at the same time. I've got various photos of you and Sarah T scattered about on various devices. Will post them when I've got some time.

We moored in the wrong place according to an email that arrived long after we had left for ye thames.

Ended up eating at Browns over near the Docklands museum. The food was very OK and a lot cheaper than expected.

Canary Wharf. IMHO, is a bit of a souless desolate hole on a windy September evening and would not be on my list of watering holes for a relaxed pleasant evening meal out.
All a bit too 1980s and like Fritz Langs Metropolis nightmare

Just been reading the debrief email and the leisure motorboaters did quite well all things considered.
Basically if the other sections of the flottila had got their act together and left on time things could have been a little less hectic .

Yes, just had dinner with the owner of one of the fireboats who is tucked up on our front mooring. It might not have felt like it, but we were much better organised than some of the other sections.

No ! I want you all in the swan pedalos :D
Give me a call tomorrow lunch time if you still have my number and ill talk you through it . It will take 30 seconds ish

If you have any photos of Dutch Barge "Lodestar", I would really appreciate a copy. :)

Not specifically of Lodestar but I rather like this pic with the dark sky, rainbow, and all the boats in bright sunshine - Lodestar adds a splash of colour (c:

So whos the chap blocking the view of my boat in the lock ?

When we all left on Sunday to head up river he was so far over to the south bank,it appeared one of the clippers trying to get to Greenwich Pier had trouble getting past when coming downstream.
