Thames Jubilee Pageant now charging boats to take part!!!!!

Ah, forgive me! Your post didn't echo your thoughts...

So, £100 X 1000 boats...methinks the Met are bumping up the bill!!

Never trust a Policeman, especially not the high ranking ones.

Understand that smaller boats as yet not too big a charge but you haven't calculated the income from charging all those watching from the bridges !

I see that a couple of posts on this thread, including one of mine, were quoted in an article on this subject in Saturday's Telegraph.

I read some time ago that the Class V passenger steamers had been asked to cough up 10% of their ticket prices, but I can't remember whether this was a compulsory charge. Some of the ticket prices, albeit including an upmarket version of a pie and a pint, are horrendous; the highest I've seen advertised so far is £1000 a head! I don't know whether those vessels are also being charged the £100.

Looking at it that way - why not try to claw back some funds from peeps who stand to make an huge profit from a seemingly free event? Seems reasonable to me.
However, it jars a bit when extra unannounced / unplanned charges appear at the last minute.

I am disgusted at the apparently huge profits aka exceedingly high prices being charged for this and on a larger scale - the Olympics. Out of all proportion to the underlying costs.

Chucking folks off their moorings (if that's true) so that others paying 10 times the going rate stinks. I hope the owners get their comeuppance in due course. They won't.....

MDL are being very good about the Olympics. The only change has been the issuing of car park permits to prevent the great unwashed parking in the marina car parks.

Nice one MDL.
