Thames Cruise

Well, we are now back in our home berth in Brundall after a fabulous cruise. Thanks again for the tips and it was good to meet on door two forumites....boatone and Apollo (who came over to say hi when we were waiting for a lock) whilst on the Thames and miket who we moored next to at the RNSYC in Lowestoft. Small world....they were heading back to Sonning (their home berth) from Brundall (our home berth) whilst we we ultimately on passage from Sonning to Brundall.

When I get a bit of time I will do a post with some pics

Now it's my turn, currently moored in Brundall. Even old Brooms can do sea passages.

Well done that man. Crowns are good sea boats and more than capable of a trip up the east coast. Thought Paris was on the cards though...??? We are moored in Brundall...got family visiting this weekend but maybe see you on the river if you are still about??

Now at Oulton Broad, off down to Orwell tomorrow.

Lovely river the Orwell. Some good choices for moorings as well. Ipswich is good for access to the town with shopping, pubs and restaurants and there are three marinas to choose from. Fox's are on the edge of the town and although a good marina, boatyard and huge chandlery wouldn't be my first choice due to location out of town. In the basin there is a choice between Neptune on the town side and Ipswich Haven on the other side. Both are nice but Neptune is close to a very popular and noisy pub so we usually stay in the Haven.

Back down river you have Woolverstone, which is lovely and you have the choice of Buttermans, the on site restaurant, the Royal Harwich Yacht Club next door and the Butt and Oyster a twenty minute walk along the footpath down at Pin Mill, which is a lovely spot. Further down there is Suffolk Yacht Harbour with the Haven Ports Yacht Club in an old lightship and good boatyard and chandlery facilities. Last one is Shotley Point, which is accessed through a lock. Closest to the sea but not the best of the three on the river for a visit IMHO.

Titchmarsh in the Walton Backwaters is worth a visit (on he Essex coast as you come out past Harwich) and if you have time Tollesbury on the Blackwater is our absolute favourite. It is a little tricky to access as some of the creek dries out and there is a cill to keep the marine full of water. Access is a couple of hours either side of high water. Tollesbury Cruising Club is very pleasant with okay food and a swimming pool, which can be used by visiting yachtsmen. The village is a step back in time with a superb sawdust on the floor butchers, a bakery and a couple of stores.

Have a good trip

Tollesbury also our favourite, great with kids with the pool. Also good greasy spoon up the road for breakfast.
Heading for Woolverstone as mates we are with will get free MDL moorings.
Will have a wander down to Pin Mill across the corn fields.

Hope to do a night in Titchmarsh as my parents live nearby and can meet us there for a meal (also good chandlery)
