I do fear that unless we get a prolonged dry spell we might be in for a disappointing summer's boating. The ground is so saturated that any rain we get immediately affects currents and water levels as the recent rains proved. The speed with which conditions changed was the fastest I can remember seeing.

I'm currently close to finalising a deal on a new home and if that all goes through I can see the boat going to MDL at Chatham for the summer.

You will be surprised how quickly the norm is restored after a few days of warm sunshine. I have areas I daren't drive on after any rain particularly so at the moment. By the end of May and assuming normal weather I will need get mowers on areas that at the moment a 6" to a foot under water.

Hoping things settle down as off to St Kats on Thursday before Easter, via Imperial Wharf... The height of the river at the moment I don't think we will get under the bridge at the entrance to our marina.

Things looking better here in Oxford, Iffley Lock open again tomorrow. So we have 90 miles of downstream Thames potentially instead of 2.5.
More rain forecast though so not sure it Strong Stream warnings will be gone before the weekend.

Looking at the flooded roads and fields round my way this morning we obviously had another deluge last night.

Was chatting to one of the Penton guys a couple of days ago and he counted less than 21 days this winter when we didn't have red flags up.

I'll bet the red boards are out for the majority of the river over the Easter weekend! Easter has been a boating washout since the early 1990s.I find it Much better to aim to start the boating season May day bank holiday.
