Am thinking of moving boat here. Anyone have recommendations/castigations? Would be much obliged to hear...

The Marina was fine when we were moored there, although I understand it's changed a bit over seven years!
Location-wise, it depends what you like. I wouldn't go back to that part of the Thames, as it misses out on the fun aspect we get down at Bray, despite being handy for Henley and a few nice places upriver. Tidal trips are going to take a fair bit longer too, if you have plans.
Personal choice will dictate. The 1 mile driveway and crummy Reading traffic didn't help either...

Location is very much what you make of it, we liked the buzz further downstream for a number of years but the no go area - soundwise - from Runnymede to Boveney was a pain. I contrast once you get above Mapledurham, the River is a much better place.
T&K is a horrible place to get to if you're on the other side of the river, queues of traffic at Sonning bridge at one end and the horrors of Reading at the other.

Couldn't agree more, with your first comment. we did all of our boating out of T&K (20 years or so) and more often than not turned right rather than left in the last half of that time.
Time your journey if you can and Sonning is no problem, Reading, on the other hand is nothing but problems!

Agree with comments about traffic in Reading but once you get there it's worth it in my opinion. Been there 3 years now and it's by far the most friendly marina of the 4 that we have used on the Thames during 14 years of boating.

I moored overnight on the visitor pontoon last year and it has a very lively and well attended clubhouse. I found it too noisy to consider a permanent berth.

We started at Windsor ( at the time 2003, good staff and reasonable facilities) and found ourselves turning to port and going up river nine times out of ten so we moved up to Temple, spent a couple of years there but never felt at "home" so we moved up river again to Hambleden, a loverly marina but when we changed our boat we needed a bigger mooring and there were none available, so on up to T&K. We find that its ideal for Henley (only a couple of hours depending on locks) or up to Goring (about 3.5 - 4 hours, again depending on locks). Agree with Phill concerning visitors moorings at T&K but the "resident" moorings are generally quiet although you do hear the railway at times, I also think it's certainly not the "prettiest" of locations, but as we tend to go out on the boat it's not been a problem.

Thanks for these, folk. Much appreciated. Think I'll go and eyeball and try for a deal? In any event their prices seem much less than those downriver; for obvious reasons, one supposes.

Like Brayman, we moored in T&K for many years before Tingdene took over. It was well run, always nice and tidy and Tingdene appear to have maintained or bettered that standard.
As for the Thames area that suits, it is entirely personal and there are generally pluses and minuses to all areas. Personally, we much prefer the tranquility of Marlow and upstream, but when we go to sea the run down to Teddington is a pain.
