He who must be obeyed would like to take the family on a bareboat charter to Thailand in late July/August. It's a bit rainy there then! The charter company says it will be fine (as they would ) but I would be grateful if anyone has had any experience of that time of year. We are all very experienced sailors but my idea of a summer holiday involves requires a reasonable proportion of doing not a lot!

I had six years in that wonderful country...sure it rains , but like most tropical destinations , it buckets down for a period of time , then clears up ( mind you it then gets steamy) , but it would be a great experience.

Suggest you swat up on local "dos and donts" ie.. never touch anyone on the head , never point your feet at anyone, also learn to say " thank you" and "please" in Thai it will open many doors.

enjoy

my mate went out there July for his honeymoon
lots of rain but in a short period
quite a lot of cloud so they came back the same colour as they went but it was warm and beautiful
they were glad of the experience but if hot sun is the priority there is more in the med
thailand for them meant lots of quiet bays and a new culture to experience and enjoy
a bit of a pain was the long stretches of coral shallows that mean't you had to get out drag the dinghy ashore in shallows in a lot of bays but that just takes some planning

I visit Phuket a lot (family hols) also, like you, are planning a bareboat holiday also probably from Phuket. I was going to sail my own boat there but too much time eats into the annual leave for the passage. As the others have said, wet but generally short and sharp. Really pretty hot and steamy though. Mates who charter/sail there often sleep on deck. Great country, friendly people and we always enjoy our visits.
