Texas State and "Vessel Turn In Programme" - A Potential Solution To Abandoned Boats

In Texas a lot of smaller boats are getting dumped or abandoned. The local government has decided to provide crushing facilities for boats up to 26'. The justification is that recovery costs from abandoned vessels are more expensive than if the owner voluntarily brings the boat for disposal.

Interesting concept, but I suspect there are far more trailerable boats in the USA stored in driveways etc than the UK.

It seems just basic common sense to me.

In this country, councils that introduced charges for using community waste centres (dumps) have seen a massive increase in fly tipping. The council then have to pay even more to clear it up.
