Testing a Schottky diode

How do I test these diodes before I pot them in epoxy?
I've used the diode test on a reasonable multimeter and it shows open circuit one way and 240 in the forward direction, no units shown on the diode function.
I was expecting a "beep" to indicate a pass, but I've never tested a Schottky diode before.
I could have over cooked them soldering leads onto them, there are 4 of them and the give the same readings.
Down at the boat, very poor Internet access and struggling with a mobile phone.
Apologies if this a duplicate post. I can't see my first attempt.

A crude way is to take a multimeter, put the negative lead on the negative of a battery. Put the positive on 1 leg of the diode and the other leg on the positive of the battery. See what the voltage is, then flip the legs on the diode and see what the reading is. 1 way should read, the other shouldn't.
 
When diodes are tested, using a diode test range, in the forward direction the meter reading is usually the forward volts drop in mV. I assume the same will apply when testing the Schottky diodes
 
240mV forward and open circuit reversed sounds about right for a Schottky diode.

That diode is pretty chunky - it's unlikely you will have damaged it - provided you've been reasonably careful.
 
Diode test on a multimeter is usually volts or millivolts of Vf drop for a small forward current.
240mV would be a likely number for a schottky in working order.
but it's not an exhaustive test, you might want to test at proper current or blocking voltage, if it's plausible that the diodes have been heat damaged.

They were soldered after being attached to a heat sink, 50mm x 75mm x 3mm. They got quite hot, because I soldered on 6mm^2 wire.
But it sounds like they sbould be ok.
Not too crical if they don't work, I'll just have to make some more.
