Tesco's at Caversham

Not sure this will ever be resolved, but whilst out at the weekend, I met an elderly couple who were on a hire boat and had to moor up near Reading bridge and walk back to Tesco's because the temporary moorings outside were full with what appear to be liveaboards again. They weren't in the best of health and must have made quiet an effort to get their shopping. Anyone know of any solution?

Absolutely. A snorkel and a waterproof drill.


Failing that, go through the lock, moor up on the right hand side after the bridge(next to the play area), walk back over the bridge, veer right and there's a great big Aldi. The industrial estate with the Aldi also has a big cheap shop(the name escapes me), with boaty and camping bits. We stocked up on food, dissolving toilet paper, chemicals and a cheap BBQ. Result.

The only time I've managed to stop outside Caversham Tesco, a hoody offered me drugs for sale.

Last year, whilst collecting youngest daughter and friends from the reading Festival, we overnighted at T&K. One of the small liveaboard boats complete with tarpaulin, chimney and logs arrived on the visitor pontoon, the owner used the toilets and showers and then left again. He seamed a very pleasant chap but his boat suggested otherwise.

In Kingston there a short term mooring outside John Lewis which is really handy for shopping, but, the mooring is always full of long term live aboards, council are aware but the council have no interest in anything at all where any effort has to be made or money spent.

I enquired about those spaces and asked what action was being taken. I received a reply from Kingston council asking me what my boat licence number was!!

Think you are trying to trivialise the issue CX, there are no moorings there, every boat you see is illegally overstaying and hasn't moved for months/years. Its doesn't matter how nice the owners are or not. It is a "Big issue" as the guy in the street with the magazine would say.

The moorings outside Tescos are the responsibility of the local authority. I have asked the EA enforcement team to take an interest.

We had a lengthy discussion about this last year. Tesco are not interested and the Local Authority don't seem to care.
