Any one know the latest state of play at Tesco’s Reading? I called in on my way upstream plenty of room on the pontoon and a very sparse Scattering of liveaboards ! Then a week later on my way back down same story!!! Plenty of room in the pontoon which got me wondering am I missing something no more in charge signs people coming and going as they should know signs of the gestapo patrolling the bank is this too good to be true please advise ?

Suspect no one dare stop there for fear of getting a £100 fine for not announcing their arrival.
Maybe you were just lucky, for me its no go (stop!) zone now :(

But surely there should be a sign somewhere notifying that mooring charges apply!

We passed a week ago and saw no signs at all.
The same few liveaboards that were there below the boarded section were still there there as they have bee xx years ago. The boarded section was empty.

We're a WSOB, so don't mind mooring in the trees if we have to, but it sholdn't be necessary if EVERYBODY conformed to the unwritten rules - but that's not going to happen.
It's a pain not having the convenience of popping into that Tesco for a quick shop - (with my Management??) - but what can be done.

FWIW the removal of reasonable access by reasonable boaters is killing the River and will get worse as those who were brought up not to obey any rules hold sway.

Anyone want to buy a boat with a super mooring (it costs on both accounts)

Passing Tesco this morning, there wasn't a single mooring space available. All the usual suspects have moored there again.

We passed by yesterday (Friday 30th August) and there were two boats only on what I consider to be the 'proper' moorings - that is a length of boarded piers. One was a smart NB - which I took to have 'gone shopping', the other might have beend a candidate for a "usual suspect". Both were at the Tesco entrance end.
The remaining 'usual suspects' were in the trees as they have always been.
We passed on our upstream trip a week ago and there were no boats on the boards of any description. Quite like old days - that would be a good compromise.

We miss our mid trip "Tesco shop" - but access is unreliable and there's nowhere else so convenient.....
