Now the kids are getting larger out 2.4m tender really does not carry 4 safely. Its tempting just to get the next size up, but I don't want to get something much heavier, nor something too big to be carried across the transom, or stowed in a space 115 * 55 * 35.

Anyone else been through this dilema and come up with a solution? Is there any tender that manages to be a little larger, yet stow down into a small package?

there's not much substitute for size when it comes to carrying capacity. the bigger of the avon doughnut models pack pretty small and carry a lot of weight. ours, the biggest size, has carried 7 in flat water. the lack of transom or floor is a pain but it's light. if you want something smaller to stow across the stern a high-freeboard rigid dinghy is a possible (e.g. pioner from caley marina)

we have a 10ft zodiac which is rated for 4 though i wouldn't want that many on board in anything but smooth water.

We have an Avon Redcrest, it carries 4 in comfort plus a golden retriever. Purchased and used heavily since 1986. I inflate and launch on my own, powered by a Honda, the same as yours. Expensive yes but on an annual cost no. I will show you next time our paths cross in the marina. It resides in one of my aft lockers.

Hi Jeremy,

The "next size up" might be an Avon R2.8, with rigid transom, which is what we have had for many years. However, I would agree that this probably wouldn't serve your needs; "we" are 2 adults and now 2 teenagers (one virtually adult!), and we really need something larger.
