Tender for Yachts below 50ft. Designing a new concept!

Contructive coments are by definition ones designed to build things up, not break them down. They let the recpient know that you are on their side and can be delivered without having to pull any punches. So for example, 'Michiel has set out his objectives clearly and compiled some well structured, sequentially logical questions. While the survey requires a good mix of fixed and open responses, there are some sections which, as a respondant, I found a little frustrating; not least question x for reason y. Maybe a better way to ask this question would be.....'

I agree, straight talk is perfectly fine, but in this case its uncomfortably juxtaposed with the term constuctive....
I don't agree. Each to their own of course but you are dancing around handbags there until you get to the "which I found a little frustrating...". I repeat that it's an each to their own matter but I prefer to think straight and talk straight and when I read something like what you wrote I think "oh just say what you mean man!" I've (politely but firmly) chucked handbag dance arounders out of my office many times and told them to come back in ten mins and say exactly what they think, when they've decided what that is. If something is a bit 7 out of 10 then just say so. It's not an insult nor a put down. It's just a point of view and op is completely free whether to act on it or ignore it. Anyway, just saying, and I'm happy to agree to disagree. :)

So more Trump than Jobs in your office then?
;)
You're a difficult bloke to disagree with, mainly because you're usually right....but not always:)

Anyway, have you watched Perfect Road Trip part 2 yet, your boat is all Over the first minute intro? Oh and they've got the Riva back....

I recently started my Master thesis concerning the development of a new concept tender/dinghy for Yachts below 50 ft.

To become a useful design solution it is most important for me to get an accurate understanding and image of the existing use, market, users and problems of the tender/dinghy as they are today.

Michiel Vermeylen

Hi Michael,

I looked at your survey too as your heading and intro did its job. It created interest, curiosity and attention like all pitches should.

New concepts / inventions usually come from the classic, "Necessity being the mother of invention." I have invented a few things in the past and also innovated some others but these only happened for me by being hands on and ideas were triggered by thinking, "Wouldn't it be nice if this or that worked differently, or if it had this on it or could be used in different weather conditions, for example." I think it may help if you look for something that will be needed on a regular basis.

It doesn't have to be a new dinghy, it could be a fastener, or a lifting mechanism, a cover, even a locking security system. The big ones like amphibian launch and recovery or even folding transoms are cool ideas but they would not have been addressed in your survey, I feel.

In following your survey, it appears to be gathering basic information about existing owners' and their tenders but I could not see anything that led me to think you may discover something that may lead you to a new concept.

I wish you well in your studies though.:encouragement:

RR

Tee hee, no worries. Google "Steve Jobs patience" sometime - my office is handbag dance-arounder's paradise compared with his :D:D
Thanks for the heads up on Top Gear. I didn't know they'd done another one. I just put it on my iPad from iTunes and will watch it later, but saw the first couple of minutes with my boat on it. Time flies, that was August 2013, but it was an action packed day out!
