HR 31s are decent boats in their way. Several of the ones knocking around are ex BKYC boats that have had a hard life. This is not to say that they are unsound but just something that needs to be taken into account. I know of one or two in good condition.

The one linked to is not the 31 that is commonly known, but the 1970s Monsun topbarcos.com/barcos-ocasion/hallberg-rassy-31-monsun which is a very different boat and explains why it is at that price rather than 2 or 3times higher!

Go and have a look at it. If only to realise a bigger boat and budget will keep her indoors very happy, not to mention yourself.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the bank balance.

My "decent nick, but needs a few thing doing" purchase from last year has comfortably (uncomfortably) doubled her purchase price, and we still haven't finished.

Join the club - the purchase price is the entry fee to this club. Then same again to become a fully paid up member followed by ever increasing annual subs!

But you had a top of the range modern cruiser, why did you opt for an old boat?
'cos its more fun. Just finished turning an old mahogany window board into companionway steps. What could be more fun than that? almost every bit of wood going into the boat is either recycled or is more than 30 years old left over from other jobs.

All my 'little' projects seemed to be around £1K a few years ago. I suspect £1.5K would be near the correct figure now.
I used to record how much I spent on projects but gave up for obvious reasons !
