I had a similar problem where one of the steel bands holding the exhaust hose in place inside a lazarette had broken and the hose was moving with every spurt of water coming through. I only noticed it because it made a thumping noise against the lid when I happened to stand on it. It had chafed on a GRP edge, about halfway through the hose.
I've used Silweld (basically the same as Rescue Tape) wrapped tightly around the hose and then replaced the failed steel band with a new stainless steel band.
Not going to replace the hose (which is £40 per metre and runs quite a length), and not worried in the least, as the wet exhaust barely gets hand warm and isn't pressurized either (and I have two CO alarms aboard). I did however check the rest of the bands for signs of imminent failure and keep a roll of Silweld and the rest of the stainless band aboard (the rest looked good, but they are painted steel bands and might be rusting underneath).
