My mini ( 2 beer) peltier trials continue! ( frozen up this morning!)

I now want to control the temperature!
I need a temperature gauge where I can set an upper and a lower limit.
There are plenty of cheap gauges with probes but non that suggest the limits can be controlled.
I have a similar gauge which reads the raw water temp and I know that i can fit an alarm to go off at a set temperature.
Can anyone direct me to a suitable inexpensive device please?

By gauge, you mean a thermostat?

Pretty sure you can set a set point and a hysteresis for this.

So say you want to run at 2-8C, depending on setup you may set 5C set point, 3C hysteresis. Some could be 2c set point and 6C hyst.

It will come with a chinglish manual. But it's doable.

You would also need to set it to cooling mode so it knows to switch on when hot and off when cold. Rather than heating mode.

What are you measuring the temp of?

Like you, I'm convinced these could be made more efficient than they have been by the camping cool box makers.

My design in my head:

Well insulated box. Like 150mm kingspan all round

Two peltiers on top of each other to get a drop of 30-40C from ambient if needed

Cooling a liquid antifreeze solution, possibly with a reservoir of insulated cooled fluid.

Solution pumped around the box surface.

Measure air temp in box to switch on and off.

Possibly a small fan in the box to circulate air

Possibly some form of 'curtain' to keep cold in when door open

Switch off fans etc if door open

Any light - led.

Thanks for that info regarding the thermostat.
I did some tests with my conventional Peltier cool box by switching it off for periods once the optimum temperature was reached.
It did seem that significant energy savings were possible. With a better insulated box this could be improved further.
I am also considering dissipating the heat via water cooling so that a unit inside my boat ( in Spain ) will not add heat to the cabin.

I need an alarmed and settable temp probe for the cooling on my Laser Cutter.

I looked at the ones recc'd for it and fell of my chair at the prices !!

I ended up with a £5 probe of ebay that has user settable upper and lower alarm limits, display of probe temp : Kitchen / Laboratory Temp Alarm .... I just drop the metal probe into the water reservoir and that's it. But not to control the temperature itself as you are looking for.

I bought similar for my Cold / Hot box on the boat ...

I would suggest a nose round local Maplins or similar ....

Sadly, Maplin is long gone and AFAIK nothing has emerged to fill that void.

Derek

?? I was searching Maplin online today ... oh dear ! that's a crapper !!

Just checked ... like everything else - 100% online only now ....

Blimey - that's ruined my day that ... I always enjoyed a nosey in Maplins London Rd Portsmouth when I get over there ...

So I see ... :)

I was looking at similar on ebay before you posted ... interesting .. do they work good ?

They work fine.
To me, the setting of switching point and hysteresis was not entirely intuitive, so don't lose the instructions.
as ever with this kind of thing, you may find you buy something which looks identical but has different firmware in it.

Got the T Shirt ... I'm into all sorts of RC stuff ... guy said a 6 axis Flight Controller X was good for what I wanted .... so I bought X on ebay .... Connected GPS ... Flight camera ... Video Tx ... RX for controller ... but NO BL**Y compass !! Useless ...

Typical eBay copy that lacked an important function.
