I have a nice little engine instrument display safely tucked away behind a Lewmar window. I wanted to have all mechanical gauges and built on that basis.

It might look pretty but the capillary tubes for temperature are not long enough to reach the engine.

Anybody ever tried a to convert mechanical into electrical? The gauges are only 38mm in diameter and I can't find an electrical one the same size.

Temp gauge

I think your best bet will be to buy an electrical gauge set up. ie sender and gauge. Then open up both gauges and try to fit the internals of the electrical into the capiliary gauge case. Usually the internals are not very big but you could end up destroying one or both gauges. Will need some courage there. good luck olewill

Find some one who services/repairs gauges for classic cars. The combined oil/temp gauge from my MGB is mechanical and I had mine repaired a year or so age.

Any one who services mechanical should be able to lengthen the capillary tube.
