Temperature comparisons

Some may remember that I acquired temperature loggers a few weeks ago with the intention of carrying out some comparisons between engine bay and cabin temperatures.
Here is a graph of temperatures between 3rd February and 9th March which shows the extremes and also how much less swing there is in the engine bay.

May have a bit to do with the engines but mainly to do with the temperature of the water supporting the boat at bilge level a couple of feet below the surface.

As we have just had some of the coldest days for ages and all we have to show for it according to those stats is a slight dip to just under freezing on one single day ,why is so much money spent on heaters and electricity by boaters.The day I helpfully snipped off B1s plug there was ice in the marina but the water temp was well above freezing?
