You need a tie bar on a twin installation as the drives will not be in sync, even if they start out parallel they will creep over time. The only system I know of without a tie bar is on Volvos DPH drives as there is no steering arm, so they either have an external tie bar or Volvos hydraulic tie bar which is very tricky to bleed out even using the special bleed tool from Volvo. You already have a tie bar in place so no need to change the set up, the servo assist is already doing the steering, you will just be changing how the servo cylinder is activated by going from cable to a helm pump which will still steer the boat even if the SB engine with the servo pump stops. A bit like power steering on a car with the engine turned off, heavy but it works.
