teleflex or ultraflex

i need a new steering cable but haven't a clue what type i need.

do i need to remove the old cable to ascertain what type it is as steering mechanism nor cable has a makers mark on it. and at 100pounds each i don't want to order the wrong one
is it easy to install new cable once ive opened the back of the steering mechanism and when i open it up will there be any parts that are likely to fall out

Surely you can take some photos and then compare the units on the appropriate site:

I rather suspect ultraflex would be your best guess.

What colour is the cable?

I not that one cable is red which would suggest Teleflex ...... BUT the steering unit has no makers name on the back of it, so it is unlikely to be either brand.

You may have to take the steering wheel off to see the make, or look in the boat's records. On the other hand you could remove the cables as the end connections should define them.

I would go back and edit the post with your picture links in. It gives public access to your albums and PBO is an open forum. Just a thought. Now you've got an answer I'd remove those links.

Morse d335 cable if connected to outboard there are several replacements that will fit !

last week the brand new engine was stolen so they cut off the end part of the steering,ie the steel /alu bar that attaches to the outboard. i was looking to just change the end but it doesn't look like it comes off from the wire so that's why i need to change the whole cable. just waiting for insurance to pay out, if they do

does any one know if you can just buy the inner cable as im having a real difficulty removing the outer cable from the splashwell mounting kit.
if not could i buy the new cable with outer and take out the inner and thread it through the old outer cable.
ive id the cable as teleflex
