Any thoughts on whether this is doable in good conditions if you leave with the high tide?

Planning for the Dunkirk crossing and would love to be able to do it in a day (albeit a longish one). She does c. 6-7 knots (not entirely sure on the new engines!).

At that speed, you will be lucky to get to the estuary before the tide turns, Queenborough
overnight, then run out with the tide to Ramsgate next day. I think some boats are doing that trip from The Hurlingham club, perhaps it is worth meeting up with them, I know one boat going has similar speed performance to you. Pm me if you want some phone numbers.

Thanks. We already have a plan to do Queenborough but I was wondering how much harder Ramsgate would be. Will be travelling in company.

Done it several times out to the Blackwater in similar boat and speed. Leave Teddington so you get through Richmond Sluices as they are lifting; punch the flood for about an hour, travelling at 6-7 knots best we've done is Holehaven, worst Gravesend, but if going into Queenborough and you do lose the tide at Holehaven, that's not too bad as there does seem to be a lag with the Medway tide (ie it's slack water in the Thames but still ebbing out of the Medway, but has anybody else found this or could confirm?)

Did it on my fathers Project 31 once and that only did 7k.

All depends on the time of the tide.

We did an early departure from Teddington (0400-0500), and went down to Queenborough.

Had a couple of hours sleep and waited for the next outgoing tide, then carried on to Ramsgate.

Long day but certainly doable.

If you had 10knots you could do it on one tide.

Doable

Total distance Teddington to Ramsgate, I seem to remember, is about 90 miles which at average 7 knots is 13 hrs. So if you can get an early enough start is possible, if tiring.
As suggested above, punch the tide below Richmond to get as far down as possible before it turns. Once you get below the Medway the current against is only around a knot, especially if yo stick to the channel south of Margate Sands. I can never remember the name.
We are also going to Dunkirk that weekend but hope to travel rather more quickly than 7 knots!
Not sure if you have looked at tide times but we are scheduled to depart Teddington on the Wednesday before the Dunkirk do and high water Richmond was around the middle of the day, which does not sound ideal for your Ted'- Ramsgate in 1 hit idea.
