Teddington Lock this afternoon

Ooh .. that's a big one !

Lifting the gate .......

Thats where it goes ..... It was interesting to see how the slings had been adjusted to tilt the gate just enough to ensure that the foot stayed in the groove in the lock wall as the gate was lowered so that the hole in the base of the gate engaged on the pintle at the bottom - sight unseen, no divers involved!

Down it goes .......

Thats it then - and it works !

Thanks to the EA for the invite and to Trueblue for giving me a lift.

Cor blimey guv, just got home (well 18:05) and your pics are "developed" and on the web.

Must be an invention of the devil....

Is that pitch / tar type stuff below the water line? If so has it been knocked off a bit as seen in the third picture and is that really bare wood exposed?

Curious of upper Thames :-)

Ah !

On a river the size of the thames or slightly larger ?

You could of put 'not been to Suez / Panama' couldn't you ? ' It's what's applicable to the site in question , they're the biggest gates on the non tidal thames , which is a river primarily used for leisure , we don't have ships plying their trade. :)

Ahem .... no locks on the Suez Canal, it's free flow between the Med and the Red Sea !

In fact. it makes you wonder why we have such a problem controlling the li'l ol' Thames :D
(only joking, Howard, and it was good to see you yesterday afternoon. )

Yeah, in an humongous big shed wiv lorrra, lorra boaty bits,
and afterwards.....

Really quiet at Tedders yesterday; even the crane was almost silent.

ooh and - Lovely Pictures B1

They're always good so continuing 'igh qualitee passes on noticed.

I might put up some rubbishy ones presently - just as a contrast.

Nice pictures :).

As most of us only pass through Teddington at nothing less than half tide, it's interesting to see just how deep those gates are. Big burgers aren't they.

Did I mention how nice those pictures are :D. Much better than TLs ;)
