ANYONE HAD EXPERIENCE OF HI-TEC 15 AMP CHARGER? MINE HAS FAILED TO FIRE UP ON OCCASIONS, EVEN AFTER LEAVING THE POWER OFF FOR THE 20MINS AS PER INSTRUCTIONS. LAST TIME I BIT THE BULLET AND BOUGHT A NEW ONE. BEFORE INSTALLING IT, I JUST TRIED AGAIN AND THE B.... THING FIRED UP AS NORMAL AND HAS WORKED AWAY NORMALLY SINCE! ANY IDEAS WHY?
 
Not familiar with your equipment,but i have had similar happen on other battery chargers etc.
Some have a thermal cut out and if this trips power is not restored until it re sets itself.
Hope this is possibly of interest to you.
By the way i found your shouted text easier to read,shame some people are not able to adjust there brain to cope,nothing useful to say why say it!

Turn caps lock off - in answer to your question, Yes I have some, albeit limited, experience of such chargers and your perceived problem but I will not answer anyone who "shouts". - your replies so far are getting even the "bog irish" a bad name.

Because it's convention on the Forums. You may care to follow your own advice - quoted above to help you out.
 
We had one of the Hi-Tec/Tec-Sup 30A for 5 years on previous boat and as far as we can tell it worked faultlessly. When we enquired about another, the supplier (Merlin?) at LIBS told us they no longer supplied them as the units were now "value engineered" and had an unacceptable failure rate! So we're in process of fitting a Victron...

BBS / Forum convention is that Caps Lock ON is shouting.... so it might be an idea to caps lock OFF .....

Is there a forum user guide? How are we supposed to know if we're violating some obscure protocol? Now that I think about it, capitals are a good representation of shouting, but it hadn't struck me before.

Is the mains supply in your neck of the woods known to be good and stable? (And your mains cable, plugs,marina dalek etc.)

Yes there is a forum user guide ....... but I doubt it covers this aspect ... it's a hang over from the old days of BBS (Bulletin Board Systems).

I actually posted "nicely" .... to identify this item ... with no intention to incite or upset ....

thanks for all the helpful replies from the sane people out there,
i,m whispering so as not to rouse the prats. the "bog irish" is most offensive, and i am in fact scottish.
