A wire has broken off my alternator, black box 20mm x 30mm.
bolted to an earth stud, with purple wire power supply.

says on bit

MICO
2.2 uF /100V

F 002 610 273
made in india

I have established MICO is Bosch.
But havent found any details on the bosch part .

I have bought a Lucas UZB 111 which is also 2.2uF and it will fit and looks the same.

What is it and what does it do as everything seams to work without it anyway.

is a suppressor the same as a capacitor ?

is it to stop my radio and radar crackling ?

By fluke is the one thats come off the spare one (not in use as the other engine powers my nav gear) as both radios and both radars work even though it is now detached.

A supressor is a capacitor. So this should be fine. Hopefully it will stop any interference from the alternator - although that is usally a whine not crackling. The radar etc will probably be ok with it detached as it is a secondary means of supression. If the radar and radio are of good quality with a powerfull front end and good circuitry they will reject any interference anyway.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, your post sorts the bits of the jigsaw so I can understand it and gives me the confidence I was looking for to fit the new suppressor.:)
