Sorry for another post on cookers :-/

Does anyone have or had a Techimpex skipper hob?

I've been umming n arrring over the massive choose of gas hobs on the market, all 2 of them!

Now I've found Techimpex which has thrown a spanner in the works, but I can't find any reviews on it.

Any info would be appreciated

My boat came with an older Techimpex cooker: two rings, grill and oven. Probably about ten years old <google image serach>, and looks, above the oven, very like the Skipper. I'm very happy with it, although I have never used the grill. It seems pretty well made and works well. I'd buy another.

I think they're rebranded 'Bavaria' and supplied as standard on all Bav Yachts, in which case the hob is fine but the oven completely useless. If we replace ours it will be a Spinflo Nelson, which friends have and rate very highly.

Yeah I looked at the Spinflo Nelson, doesn't come with gimbals though. Im not sure if they can be brought seperate

I had a Techimpex two burner with grill and oven on my last boat. 15 years of faultless service.

I'd have bought another one for new boatie until I discovered that Plastimo cookers are made in Birmingham...so I bought one of them and I'm very happy with it.

( I always try to buy home produced - when I can )

They're Italian! http://www.techimpex.it/

The distributors are Penguin Engineering, I think, and they are (a) British and (b) delightful people to deal with.

Dumped my Techimpex as the hob did not stand up to serious use and oven was rubbish. Also the then distributors provided poor back up. Hope Penguin are better. Burners are unique and a pig to service or change. Look good in the showroom though.

Bolton actually by Leisure Products.

I've had a Techimpex 2 burner hob and grill for about 10 years. The grill cooks a bit unevenly but otherwise it does what it's supposed to do. There's one screw in the centre of the front panel that's not stainless and has rusted. There's not a lot else I can say.

Mine did have a small and slightly unnerving tendency to explode at one time. After a bit of investigation I discovered that the pipe and jet for the oven had come adrift from their bracket and were no longer correctly aligned. The oven lit, after a fashion, but every so oven would go BOOM. It took five seconds to fix once I diagnosed the problem and now works beautifully. I wonder if that alignment issue might have been behind the two oven problems described here?

I've ordered my Techimpex Skipper hob and grill today. So let's hope it works well!

It seems like all the ovens by various manufacturers have there problems.

I will report back mid season to let you know how it'd fairing.

It looks like what I need! I cannot fit a cooker with an oven without major surgery but a grill would be sufficient for my needs. I have contacted the makers for a quote delivered to Malta. I would be interested to know how much it costs in England, if that's OK with you.
Thanks.
