Does anyone know anything about Teal Boats, where they were built and if they still exist as a builder? We have just bought a Teal Fisherman in need of extensive re-fit and we are trying to track down the builder. We would be grateful for any info

Hi Nesstowndrow,

I bought my first boat, a Teal 22 last year and started an extensive refit as well, never realised how extensive it would become!!

Hope you enjoy your new boat.

Dodge

Hi Dodge,
Do you know where we could find some pictures or even drawings of the 22? Most of the wheelhouse is missing on our boat and we could really make use of some pictures of the engine layout as the engine is also missing. Is your boat in the water now?

Ness.

My Father was Fred Child who designed the Teal Boats and as his son I built many of them. I will help you in any way I can -kind regards Tony Child

Hi Tony,

I have a Teal 20 which I have owned for the last four years. I have done a lot of work to it and would be extremely grateful for any information that you could give me about it. The reg number is TCLP/035 and it was built by F H Child, Broughtons yard, Rochdale. As I say I would be pleased to find out what year it was built in and how many Teal 20's were produced etc.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Tony,
I have just got a Teal 610 Executive which is the totaly closed in one for river and canal, I am told that she is about 1975 ish. Was there many of the type made as I have only seen about 4 like this. My dad have 2 Teal 22's the sea going Version, The last onre he had, had a volvo 120 in it and it went like a bat out of hell.
I have now just started to strip mine inside and rebuild her.

Hi
I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A TEAL 20' RIVER CRUISER WHICH I AM STARTING TO RENOVATE , IT HAS A HONDA 9'9 HORSEPOWER OUTBOARD, THE METHOD BY WHICH IT IS ATTATCHED TO THE TRANSOM IS BY A WOODEN BOX SECTION , PUSHED OVER THE TRANSOM AND THE MOTOR BRACKETS ATTATCHED TO THAT , IS THIS THE BEST METHOD OF ATTATCHMENT ?THE EXISTING WOOD IS ROTTEN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED , ALSO IT HAS HAD A NEW STEERING SYSTEM AND CABLE FITTED BUT WHEN MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL THE SIDE TRANSOM WHERE THE STEERING ROD IS ATTATCHED MOVES QUITE CONSIDERABLY , WOULD YOU THINK THAT IS NORMAL?
ANY ADVISE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, THANKS IN ADVANCE , REGARDS MIKE

Hi I'm a newbie to this forum and am also interested in the larger teal boats, I'm after a 22ft open cockpit model to bring back to good order, I love the look of the open cockpit model and would be using it from my home in Conwy north wales so would be looking to have larger engine(s) Its a Shame that the moulds don't still exist as it would probably make a nice retro model nowadays if fitted out from new with modern kit!

Teal Owner's Forum now online

Hi all

Just a quick note for anyone who might still be interested in this old thread to advise that I have set up an owner's forum for Teal boats.

This can be found at www.tealboats.co.uk, and anyone with a teal of their own, or an interest in them, is most welcome to join.

Thanks & regards
Jim

Well Tony, It must be very satisfying to see so much interest and enthusiasm still being shown for your Dad's design after all these years. It was and is a timeless boat and will never go out of fashion, and it must have been well built to have survived in such large numbers.

I agree. I remember when I was little, I'd go with my dad to bail out his boat each week in the harbour, and how much I loved the boat next to his (a teal of course).

I'm 36 now and I still think they're very good looking boats. There's a lot over here on the Isle of Man as they were built here at one point (and I gather Tony's family lived here some time also).

I just really wish i had more background info and tech specs etc about them to fill in some gaps. I suspect unfortunately due to the age of the thread that we might not be able to get hold of Tony again on here. Real shame as I'd have loved to grill him for more info.

Anyway, it would be fantastic if fellow owners decided to join the forum I've started.
It's a free forum currently and slightly limited as a result, but if it picks up interest gradually I'll pay to get it hosted and set up properly.

I'm sure it could become a useful resource if it gets input from other teal owners, but I'll be adding my own stuff there regardless.

Teal 22 - Hello, I'm new here

Hi
After quite some time of trying to establish the type of boat I have, I have finally come to the conclusion that it's a Teal. Being new to the boating world, I originally thought I had a Norman, and more recently a Callumcraft - but I think I've now discovered it's true identity.

After searching online I have found this forum, and would very much like to join in please.

I was given the boat as a near-wreck, and have been recording my restoration adventure on my blog www.aboatformypotplants.blogspot.com

I'll soon be coming to a point where getting a motor is the next main hurdle, so I'm sure any information I can gleam from this forum would be most welcome.

Thanks
Neil
