Hi folks.

My and my colleague recently had the job of clearing a barn up on a farm in Derbyshire.
Towards the rear, we found this little gem.
We are both engineers but as this is definitely a little different for us, we are trying to find out the value of the boat and other kit that goes with it.
It has a Snipe trailer and a marinised Montego turbo diesel engine which had been custom made to fit the Z-Drive Volvo Aquamatic system that has been mounted to the boat.
It has all been standing for a number of years so would need going over, the engine had been running and has fluids in.
I suspect this would make a nice project for someone in the know.

Does anyone have an idea of how much things are worth?
Volvo Aquamatic
Trailer
Engine

Or would it be better to sell as a whole collection?

Many thanks - Luke.

As an educated (IMHO) guess, maybe £3-4K. Montego engines were hardly sought after in cars, let alone boats, so I'd say the engine is pretty much worthless. eBay will give you a true value, best to try at the start of the boating season.

The Montego diesel engine was the basis for the Volvo TAMD22 I think, so it's maybe not such an odd ball package.
Still not worth much though, as LJS says couple of K maybe.

PS: it may be cheaper to replace I /O with an outboard than spend ££££ on the diesel/outdrive.....

correction: the Endeavour is only 15'

For a valuation on this boat I would take photos and put it on EBay with a reserve of perhaps £3000
Make sure that the trailer is roadworthy, buy a trailer board with a long lead and in your advert point out that on purchase the boat/trailer can be towed away on purchase.

I would say 3k is a bit ambitious, looking at that engine I wouldn't want to fit that into boat as is, list on eBay and see what offers you get, I would guess £1500 max.

If the engine is running ok, the mount in the boat, tidy everything and make her as smart as possible then E Bay is your route to riches, well a couple of grand anyway. Good luck.

Hi guys,

Thankyou for your replies, we have the trailer brakes stripped down at the moment as they were a little problematic on the 10 mile trip back.
We are waiting to hear back from a local person who may be interested but if nothing comes of it, would it be worth advertising on here?

There is a For Sale Forum on here, but with a max price of £400, see the Forum's below.

Hi, I think it's a nice find but won't gain you riches. personally if I was in your situation i'd be thinking about selling the leg separately and then the maranised parts of the engine separately and then sell the boat and trailer together I think you could get 1.5k-2k depending on the buyer. Probably a decent sea boat i'd imagine if you were thinking about doing a project it could leave a nice dent in your wallet though. good luck with what ever you decide to do :)

You are correct and the engine core is made by Perkins who are a reputable diesel engineer manufacturer, you can still see the 'Perkins of Peterborough' brass plates on the block and all of the other small diesels marinised and painted green and sold by VP as their own! Only the D3 and upwards are Volvo made.
