I am looking for a teak supplier, to supply a real wood teak deck for my boat.

However I believe Burmese teak is the best avaiable as it is longer lasting than Indonesian teak as it grows to quick.

How do I know if I am being sold Burmese teak for instance that it is Burmese and not Indonesian etc??

Is there any way to tell, other than what is written on the invoice?

Although I don't aprove of using tropical hardwoods I can send you a small sample that you can use for comparison.PM me if interested.

Density. closeness of grain and uniformity of colour. The easiest to spot are closeness of grain and the colour. However, teh EU has just placed a ban on all Burmese products as a political statement so there will be no new Burnmese teak arriving for a while. You can also get Thai teak, which is pretty good. As not PC as anything the old growth teak is teh best stuff to get.

Try Robbins Timber, Bristol. They are very helpful, as is K.J.Howells in Poole. If you need it machining and profiling, then Robbins will do that, I'm not sure of Howells capabilities and I know he's at the show this week and next. Howells 01202 665724. Robbins 01179 633136. Both will despatch. There is also somewhere in Hull but my brains dried up on that one. Good luck
